Mara, the main heroine of this book is a natural born mind-reader, a sociopath and a perfect antihero.

So I was intrigued, and then bam! these two books made my top reads of 2013 - they were so mind-blowingly good. If you know Dear Author, you know that they don't rave about books very often. I found out about Miss Smith through rave reviews of Heat and Last Hour of Gann on Dear Author. In a way it reminded me of Anne Bishop's UF series as 'the otherness' of R. If you read and loved Heat, The Scholomance is for you. She messes with your head, makes you question your own sanity and moral compass, and wraps it all up in a delicious plot so you aren't able to stop reading until you reach the last sentence. Lee Smith's books are always are revelation for me. And Readercon is proud to host a number of charitable efforts.R. There is a hospitality suite well-stocked with munchies and, yes, there are parties. We publish a Souvenir Book whose pages of content rival a Worldcon’s in number, and a separate, comprehensive Program Guide. There is a large Bookshop full of new, used, and rare and collectible books and magazines (and yet more great conversation if a Readercon attendee is not at a program item, they’re probably here). The program also currently features the presentation of two major genre awards: The Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award for a neglected author and the Shirley Jackson Awards for dark fantasy and psychological suspense. The program consists of two tracks each of panel discussions, author readings, and solo talks or discussion groups, plus kaffeeklatsches (intimate gatherings with an author) and autograph signings.

Readercon is the only small convention regularly attended by such giants of imaginative literature as Gene Wolfe, Samuel R. In many years the list of Readercon guests rivals or surpasses that of the Worldcon in quality. Instead, Readercon features a near-total focus on the written word.
